Music City Miracle
Evryday I have been running, training for my attempt at a marathon in January. Today 104.5 the Zone replayed the greatest games in Titans history in lew of regular broadcasting. They were counting them down 5th greatest to first. When it was time to run today I turned on my $5 radio from Walmart and listened to the game. It was the number one choice of the fans the infamous "Music City Miracle" game. For those of you unfamiliar with the game, the Titans won on a crazy play with 16 seconds left. It is considered one of, if not the greatest play of all time. The fans of the opponents the Buffalo Bills still protest that it was an illegal play. As a Titans fan I see it our way and no one can convince me otherwise, in fact I have probably watched the play 100 times and am confident the refs made the right call (sorry Bills fan). The irony here though is although this is remembered for being the greatest game ever, the game up till that point was a bit of a snooze fest. Listening to the broadcast reminded me just how dull it was till the final 2 minutes.
I guess the analogy here is obvious, its funny we can work on things for hours, months even years, and people only remember the end or the dreaded mistake that was made one time. Wether its your reputation, an event you put on, or the way you last looked people judge you by your most recent efort or the mistake. Want the proof? Just ask an actor whose body of work is brillant, but they were in a stinker (alah Kevin Costner's Waterworld). Or look at a minister whose entire ministry is tarnished becuase of a glaring mistake. It is just how the world is, we may not like it but perception is reality, and perception is what have you done lately.
So next time your asked about someone remember this: its funny how we choose what to remember and choose to forget. Titans fans remember the last 16 seconds, but I heard the whole game. Sure it was a "classic moment" but as for the game not the same story.
