Impact 2006 The Story
2006: The Story- Well for reasons I cannot share this was yet again a rough year for me personally. It seems like the worst possible times in my life conveniently fall around Impact. My life seemed to be falling apart. In the end however it was an absolutely top 5 year. We did not work as hard on video thankfully, we had enough. like the sequel to Chewbacca Lawyer, "Chewbacca Doctor", "Chick Fortune Impact Daredevil" which Paul Skidmore made funny with creative editing, the Power Force One series, and Skid's classic Master card video, which is an all-time top five video.
But of course the ultimate thing from 2006 Morning Impact was the huge Guinness prank, yes it was a prank. All year we had been building up to this one. We even talked about it in 2005 on stage. We were going to break a Guinness record. Most Watermelon eaten in 40 seconds. In fact when we dreamed up the angle at a meeting in Lebanon we could not stop laughing about the idea. We knew it would be hilarious. Let’s just say the campers took it hook line and sinker. Crowding the stage taking pictures yelling at Tyler to hurry up. In Tyler’s defense he did not want to do it, he thought everyone would hate him, but he played it perfectly. He would take a bite and chew it forever. People were yelling "hurry up", and someone whispered to a counselor, "I don't think he's going to make it." One of the funnier moments of the gag was that the roadies also fell victim as they did not know it was a prank. Rubes cut the watermelon and sat it out. One of the Roadies ate a piece and Rubes flipped (it was of course meant to be a joke) the roadie thought they had ruined our record attempt by eating the piece. The Guinness "adjudicator" was a guy we knew no one would know and he played the part so well know one knew that he was in on the prank. In fact I think many of you still did not know he was in on it till right now. The joke almost turned on us though as the next day when the Channel 4 news showed up. We thought it was a gag. We did not even acknowledge their presence. Of course the joke was on us, as we were on the news that night. I dead panned my interview thinking it was a payback hoax for the gag we had pulled. The teens will probably remember the skits from this year more than any other. This was the first time the theme was really built around the skit. We based the skit loosely on a Broadway play called "Into The Woods” and the whole theme revolved around our story. The idea that we are living out act 3. Act 1 was the old covenant, act 2 was Jesus time on earth, and act 4 is the end of times. It is a "faithful improvisation" in which we write our stories in act 3. Skid was Prince Charming Jon was his squire, Dave Clayton played Jack of beanstalk fame, Haley Todd, Howard's daughter was Red Ridding Hood or "Debbie" as she was called, Frank Harris was Rumplestiltskin, Chapel played "Rap" Punzell, Rubio was the Narrator, Aubry was the Giant, and Bethany, Aubry's intern played the Witch. I was the Wolf and that mask was hot. I will never forget the junior camper’s reaction to the final skit. The empathy they felt for Little Red and Jack, the cheering when the Big Bad Wolf choose light, the shock when Prince Charming decided he was more important than the story, and their ovation when the Squire decided to leave Prince Charming. It blew me away that they got it. Oh how could I forget the power going out Thursday at Senior that was fun.
